Our Story
At HomeWorkings, we firmly believe that you should be able to live in a safe, comfortable home, while getting what you are paying for in your energy usage. We can help you get there by pointing you to the right solutions for your repairs and upgrades.
History
HomeWorkings, llc was started by Tim Mazur in 2014. His motivation for starting this company was -> after seeing all the errors that were made in building the house he owns, he realized that the average homeowner would not have the tools or knowledge to find these types errors. Plus, these errors were greatly affecting the comfort of the occupants as well as increasing the operating cost to the homeowner.
Why Home Performance Diagnostics
and NOT Energy Audit
Virtually everyone that does something close call themselves an Energy Auditor. So of course, it was planned to be call an Energy Audit business. However, while preparing to start this business, studying and talking with people, several problems became apparent with the Energy Audit path. First, no one wants to be audited and told they are doing it wrong. Secondly, people want what they want regardless of the energy consumed (i.e. they want to be warm in the winter and cooled in the summer). Third, the Energy Auditor recommended fixes must pay for themself from the energy savings or they will not get done. Fourth and most important, the Energy Auditors focus on cutting the energy you use. They don't really fix the underlying problems that cause the house to be uncomfortable while using more energy. They may claim the whole house fixes, but stop well short of that goal by ignoring the HVAC systems airflow and delivered efficiency.
Therefore, the business direction changed to the Home Performance through Diagnostic testing route. This really does take into account how the whole house is working and real solutions for your house's issue can be found. We tell you what was done wrong by the builders, not you. We show you the way to control and thus you get comfort. By getting the HVAC system working correctly and reducing the losses out of the house, you can possibly save some energy and money. Since we are dealing with your health, safety, as well as comfort, most people are willing to pay for the necessary upgrades and repairs. The ultimate goal is allow you to control your house's environment to be comfortable, safe, and healthier.

The Underlying Problems to a
Safe Comfortable Home
House Construction
Unfortunately, when most houses get built, there is really no ONE person in charge of it. The General Contractor mostly acts as a scheduler for the various sub-contractors, since he usually has a number of houses under construction at the same time. The sub-contractors oversee their own work, but there is a minimum amount of quality control in the overall process. Mistakes and errors are quickly hidden away as the home is finished. Code officials are only ensuring that the house meets a minimum level (think a "D" grade). Thus, we end up with houses that may look pretty, but are often not that comfortable and can have serious flaws that can affect our health and safety. (Note: For custom homes built one at a time, the General Contractor usually takes a more active role often leading to a better built house.)
Other Companies Fixes
When you discover your house has an issue, most people will call the company that they think can fix the issue. For example, if your house has rooms that are uncomfortable, you are likely to call a HVAC company first. That company is more than willing to sell you the newest piece of equipment that will "definitely take care of the problem". Unfortunately, the problem usually remains after the company is done with the install. [The reason the problem remain is because most companies do not test to find the real cause of the problem.] Then you think, maybe it is my windows, so you call a window company. Of course, they tell you that their windows will "definitely take care of the problem". Yet again, the problems remains. Now having spent a bunch of money, you think the problem cannot be fixed and you just have to live with it. We are here to tell you that YOU DON'T have to live with it because it can be fixed once the real causes and solutions are known.
Our Why
